FAQ: I am creating leaves for the new year using the Adjust Leave Balances option and received an error with details of “Cannot insert with overlapping leave dates”; why?

When creating leaves for the new year using the Adjust Leave Balances option, if an employee has a leave start date that is within the leave year being created, an error with details of “Cannot insert with overlapping leave dates” appears when trying to execute.

To resolve the error so that the new year for the leaves can be created, review the list of employees displayed in the Employee Selection section on the Adjust Leave Balances screen and check the Last Leave Start Date field (column) to determine the employee(s) with a leave start date that is different from the others (and the new year’s start date would be within the year being created).  If needed, use the Filter button located to the right of the Last Leave Start Date column to view and narrow the list as desired, or click the column heading to change the sort order.  (Tip:  If the Adjust Leave Balances screen was closed and is no longer displaying, select to generate the Employee Leave Balance Report (accessed under the Reports menu in Payroll and the Employee Reports (PR) grouping) for the applicable leave and click the Search button for the Start Date parameter in order to select the start date that is different from the others; then generate the report to the screen to determine the employee(s) causing the error.)

For each employee who is causing the error, bring up the employee in the Employee File, click the Leaves tab, bring up the appropriate leave, and change the date in the End Date field to match the other employees; and save.

Then complete the Adjust Leave Balances option to create the new year for employees without any errors.
